QE Boys 11+: What Parents need to know

What is QE Boys?

Queen Elizabeth’s is a selective, single-sex grammar school located in Barnet, North London. Admission is based entirely on academic performance in its entrance test.

Registration for the entrance test opens in May of year 5 and takes place the following September.

Entrance Test

All boys applying for a place at Queen Elizabeth’s School are required to sit in person multiple choice tests in Maths and English. These will be sat in a single session, across one of the two test days scheduled during the september of Year 6.

Admission

Each year, QE boys admits 180 students into year 7. There is no local catchment area, and these places are offered exclusively to those who surpass the minimum qualifying standard decided by the school governors. Ranking is determined based on the combined scores in the selection test and is standardised by taking account of the ages of the candidates. It is important to realise that simply suppassing the qualifying standard does not guarentee you a place. The higher the student performs, the more likely they are to be offered a place.

Any additional applicants who do not obtain a place, but have suppassed the minimum requirements in the admissions tests will be placed on a waiting list, and offered a place if other students do not accept their offer.

Parents should consider preparation more than simply “passing the 11+”.
